A 第一代 Student's Guide to Studying Abroad in 罗马

作为一个 first-generation college student comes with some challenges, and so does 宝博体育. So, what happens when you put those two things together? Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to feel scary. As a first-generation student myself, I didn’t know where to start on this journey,

Don’t be shy, make a friend!

I can assure you, that isn’t the case. On my study abroad trip from the U.S. to I started following the 机场 signs, darting between fellow travelers, 还有滚动的行李箱, eventually making it to what was maybe the correct gate.

I thought to myself, “Hey! While waiting in line for our security check, They told me about their favorite places, helped me through security, Not every encounter with a stranger goes this well,

It’s okay to spend a little money, budgeting is key.

Not always going out to eat, valuing window shopping over purchases, Before I left to study abroad in 意大利, I set a 留学预算 for myself to include the necessities like travel, 食品杂货, 和其他必需品, 但我也给自己留了一些娱乐的钱,和室友一起即兴旅行, 在城市里度过夜晚, and nice meals shared with good company.

I allotted money for 周末旅行s with my roommates, one of such trips was a long weekend to beautiful Sicily.

Be adventurous, do it scared.

When I started college, I was terrified. I had no idea what to expect, let alone any idea of what my education abroad would look like. 但是,如果你像我一样进入了大学,并且正在考虑 宝博体育 with 东航卡帕, look how far you have come!

Many times, in life we’re scared to do things that we want to do. For me, it was climbing the steps at St. 彼得大教堂 in Vatican City. Everything in 意大利 that I did was often a new experience. I knew that this experience would be unforgettable (good or bad), but something to remember my trip by. Oh, and by the way, the view was incredible!

I’m the first in my family to attend college, I always try to do my best at everything, but sometimes that makes me want to be perfect. That’s simply not attainable, 然而,我尝试通过计划每一件小事,并控制,以防止任何错误的发生, 但是再一次, that’s just not the case.

My roommates had planned everything perfectly right?

Had we not let go of the little (and big) things, 但 even though things looked bleak, we carried on as best we could, 甚至度过了我们整个留学之旅中最美好的一天,漫步在威尼斯的小巷里, meeting eclectic gondoliers we now call friends, and making lasting memories with each other.

Ricardo's advice to us in Venice was to "get lost.
